Opportunities for Your Child at Chalford Hill Primary School

The list below illustrates the variety of activities, clubs and roles open to your child at Chalford Hill. It is not a definitive list but subject to change as different opportunities arise.

REACH Awards

Certificates are awarded by members of staff to pupils who go above and beyond when it comes to displaying REACH qualities:

Respect:              We respect ourselves, others, work and property.

Effort:                   We take responsibility to participate and to try our very best.

Achieve:              We work hard to achieve our goal.

Challenge:           We look for ways to improve and get even better.

Hi- Five:                 We celebrate success.

School Council

The School Council is made up of two representatives from children in years 1 - 6 who have been elected by their classmates. These Councillors meet with either the head teacher or deputy head teacher every half term to discuss ways in which the school can be improved and any other matters they feel are important. This is their chance to represent the views of their classmates and ensure that they play an important part in school life.  It is a great opportunity for them to represent their peers, take responsibility for what happens in school and learn how to debate issues with each other and put forward their point of view in a constructive way.

The Councillors have visited other schools in our Hub at lunchtimes, to see what children do at lunchtimes and to bring back good ideas!  Councillors are also looking into ways to fundraise, both locally and nationally, and considering menu choices for our school canteen.

Self nomination across all year groups and elected by peers.  Each child can only hold a position for a year.

School Trips

At our school, we strongly believe in the value of incorporating real-world experiences into our curriculum. Our school trips are designed to provide children with hands-on learning opportunities that directly align with their academic goals and objectives. By stepping outside the classroom and exploring different environments, your child will be able to deepen their understanding of various subjects while developing important life skills.

Our dedicated team of teachers and staff have carefully curated a series of trips that are both educational and engaging. Each trip has been specifically chosen to support the learning outcomes and objectives outlined in our curriculum, ensuring that your child's educational journey remains comprehensive and well-rounded. For example, our children have recently visited Aerospace Bristol, STEAM museum in Swindon, The Natural History Museum and the Science Museum in London, Berkeley Castle, Chedworth Roman Villa.

During these trips, children have the chance to observe, interact, and learn in environments that are directly related to their studies. Whether it's visiting a historical site, exploring a museum, engaging with nature, or even attending performances, we strive to create experiences that are not only educational but also enjoyable.

We believe that these school trips play a crucial role in nurturing critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and independent learning in our students. The hands-on experiences gained from these excursions contribute significantly towards their academic progress and personal growth.
