·        to teach children correct letter formation using print in EYFS and Y1, and introduce joined handwriting from Y2.

·        to enable children to write fluently and legibly.

·        to enable children to be able to produce well-presented handwriting for specified pieces of work across the curriculum.

At Chalford Hill, we take a pride in presentation and accurately formed handwriting is integral to this. Children are also taught that the purpose of some writing – eg note taking – does not require beautifully joined handwriting. Handwriting is taught regularly and systematically through a progression of skills.
