PROBLEM SOLVE      DIGITALLY LITERATE      PROGRAM

Computing Rationale

Aim:

Our aim is to ensure all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation;
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems;
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems;
  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication.

What we do:

Our computing curriculum promotes a love of learning. It empowers children to become independent and resilient, whilst preparing them for the future they will inherit. We equip the children with important and necessary skills used in all aspect of life, and provide exciting curriculum opportunities. Our learning platform provides collaborative, cloud based, online opportunities to learn, linking home and school. We use G-Suite for Education, which includes a virtual classroom for increased interactivity. Our investment in technology makes experiences in computing memorable, unforgettable and lifelong.

Our curriculum covers essential themes, including e-safety, coding, communication and control and monitoring. Alongside this, we have a large bank of chrome books; allowing the use of a variety of apps and hardware. Our underlying IT proficiency supports all areas of the curriculum and represents modern ways of working remotely from anywhere. Technology is very motivating, inclusive and engaging for the children and the use of workshops, themed days, events such as the K’Nex challenge, all promote and harness this wonderful enthusiasm. We use both formative and summative assessment information to inform our short-term planning and interventions. This helps us provide the best possible support for all pupils. We follow a comprehensive scheme of work, building each year to provide a complete and comprehensive computing experience.

Purple Mash
